• Increase your ability to be an effective advocate
• Learn techniques for sharing your personal story to encourage positive changes

Does your Election Candidates Support People with Disabilities?
"Does your Election Candidates Support People with Disabilities?"
Does your Elected Officials and Election Candidates support policies that foster Self-Determination,Integration, Inclusion, Productivity and Independence of People with Disabilities?
Know who you are voting during federal/state/local Elections.
First, Register to Vote or update your Voter Registration information.
Second, decide on issues that are important to you.
Third, Select Election Candidates that support your views.
Fourth, Go Vote!
Know who you are voting during federal/state/local Elections.
Attend TownHalls for Election Candidates.
Attend Election Forums by civic organizations.
Inquire about your Election Candidates' position on disability laws.
Review Election Candidates support of People with Disabilities by calling them, emailing them, viewing their websites and social network sites (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc...).
Does your Elected Officials and Election Candidates support policies that foster Self-Determination, Integration, Inclusion, Productivity and Independence of People with Disabilities?
Before you touch the voting screen, pull the lever, mark your card, Press VOTE---
know whom you are casting your vote for.
Advocacy agencies and Disability organizations provide a prolific stream of information about Policymakers' positions on Disability issues.
Many are providing Voter resources such as How to Register, Accessibility, and Where to Vote.
Many are conducting relevant surveys of Election Candidates as it relates to their views of employment, health, education, housing and other issues that interest People with disabilities.

Help America Vote Act of 2002
Public Law 107-252 to help states update voting machines and practices, including provisions to ensure accessibility for voters with disabilities.
Advocacy Center - Voter Registration Information
Voting Rights Act (Enactment and Amendments)
To file a complaint with the U.S. Dept. of Justice toll-free at (800) 253-3931 or send a letter.
DOJ says "We encourage anyone with a complaint about voting discrimination to let us know what the problem is, where it is, and how it affects minority voters. There are no special forms to use or procedures to follow."

'Advocacy Non-Profits Fiscal Responsibilities'

Congratulations to our state and national partners working in those areas--like the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO) and the Mississippi Center for Nonprofits--as well as all the local nonprofits for their contributions to the region! The study found that for every dollar invested in the policy and civic engagement of the organizations, there was a return of $114 in benefits to local communities. Yes, you read that correctly--$114 for every $1. So in case you were wondering if your hard work on advocacy campaigns and voter engagement outreach was paying off, the answer is a resounding "Yes!"
