LOUISIANA

Here are 2 that should interest Self-Advocates and Parents of Students with Special Needs living in any state:

SB 59 - STUDENTS: Provides relative to the use of seclusion and physical restraint to address student behavior.

AC supports this bill which provides additional rules and guidelines to govern the use of restraint and seclusion in schools.



SB 67 - STUDENTS: Provides relative to school discipline policies.

AC supports this bill which promotes the use of restorative justice practices, loss of privileges, peer mediation, referral to school counselor or social worker, etc. prior to the use of suspensions or harsher discipline measures. In addition, the bill directs the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop guidelines for the use of in-school and out-of-school suspensions.
