On March 27, 2014 the CDC published “Prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder Among Children Aged 8 Years — Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network, 11 Sites, United States, 2010” (MMWR Surveillance Summaries / Vol. 63 / No. 2). The study finds the rates of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) of children born in 2002 have increased to 1 in 68, up from 1 in 88 of children born in 2000. With males five times more likely to develop autism, the prevalence rate increased from 1 in 54 in boys born in 2000 to 1 in 42 in boys born in 2002.
