'Fitting Together' Gala. Film and stage actress Ally Sheedy will host joined by a performance from singer/songwriter Martha Wash to help QSAC (Quality Services for the Autism Community). Fitting Together is QSAC’s annual signature event to support education and care for the autism community in New York City and Long Island. Among the honorees are Alison Niederauer (a lawyer and member of the board of Autism Speaks). Additional entertainment by Broadway Dolls and the up-and-coming young starlet Katie Shults.
The gala will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Guastavino’s (409 East 59th Street), which is among the City’s most beautiful examples of architectural creativity. Pre-gala VIP reception begins at 6:30PM. Gala begins at 7PM.
Art exhibit gives voice to adults with autism
Groups stress need for more programming that will help those affected after age 21
Bright paintings, photographs and drawings line the walls of two galleries at the Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County. With the exception of three photographs, all were created by adults with autism.For Prince, who has a 22-year-old son with autism, the art show gives the public an opportunity to see the abilities of people with autism.
And 33 individuals proved themselves.
“There’s a lot we need to deal with as a society,” Prince said. “And I think this art can give people an unintimidating way of getting a glimpse of what these people can bring to individuals.”
