The Transition Coalition offers "a self-assessment instrument designed to help schools and districts determine the most critical needs within a transition program. This instrument is best utilized if multiple transition stakeholders complet...e it (e.g., teachers, administrators, parents, others). The data can be then compiled into a single summary for the district." The tools is free - someone from the district has to create a user profile (the link is on the left-hand side of the homepage under "Quick Links."). I think all districts should go through this exercise.

The National Autism Center is May Institute’s center for the promotion of evidence-based practice. It is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) by providing reliable information, promoting best practices, and offering comprehensive resources for families, practitioners, and communities. in 2009, the National Autism Center completed an unprecedented multi-year project — the National Standards Project — to establish a set of standards for effective, research-validated educational and behavioral interventions for children on the spectrum. These standards identify treatments that effectively target the core symptoms of ASD. The resulting National Standards Report is the most comprehensive analysis available to date about treatments for children and adolescents with ASD. It is a single, authoritative source of guidance for parents, caregivers, educators, and service providers as they make informed treatment decisions.

12 Days of Inclusion

INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS WEEK is December 2-7, 2013!

Every year I share some sort of holiday countdown in the form of recommendations or ideas. Last year, my twelve days countdown featured recmmended books. The year before, I suggested gifts for educators, families, and students. This year, the launch of “12 Days of Inclusion” comes immediately following the release of my latest book, From Text Maps to Memory Caps: 100 MORE Ways to Differentiate Instruction in the K-12 Inclusive Classroom. Therefore, I am using these first two weeks of December to highlight a dozen of my favorite ideas from the book.
